Fedora 16 codenamed Verne released. This time the greatest update is the new Gnome 3.2, the evolution of the new gnome platform to next level and KDE Plasma Workspaces 4.7. Ubuntu 11.10 is released. You can download ubuntu 11.10 from the official website. The latest release of ubuntu comes with lot of great features and fresh user interface changes. It is evolved as much stable operating system for modern desktop and tablet environments.

Ubuntu 11.10 comes with a good set of applications for every purpose. The selection of applications are made in Ubuntu conference. Banshee Music Player, Libre office, Ubuntu one cloud storage, Firefox 7, Thunder bird, Shotwell Photo editor etc are included default. The latest ubuntu 11.10 comes with Gnome 3.2 latest linux kernel 3.1. But insted of gnome shell ubuntu 11.10 uses unity desktop environment. Orbit is an awsome image slider plugin with HTML5 features. It uses Jquery so it is a jquery slider. The size is near 4kb. Works best in Chrome, Safari, FF3.5+ (but is tested for IE7+, FF3.5+, Chrome and Safari).  You can add awsome captions and use css3 to style it. You can use custom fonts also.

An HTML5 Jquery slider is Orbit.

Full HTML Captions

Orbit slider has full HTML captions. You can add styles, links, lists,etc into your code.

Add a span with the class “orbit-caption” and an ID of your very own choosing after the slider div. Put whatever HTML you’d like to appear in the caption inside. They’re block level, so anything goes.

Add the span ID you chose to the “data-caption” attribute on the corresponding image tag.

Bullet Navigation

The glorious new bullet navigation is as easy as passing a parameter when you call the Orbit function. The bullet nav is natively an unordered list of increasing numbers, but for the example and the kit we’ve replaced them with nice, little round bullets (but changing this is a just a matter of changing the CSS how you like)

Using Content

Orbit slider  is now content compatible! It can be mixed in with images, but just make sure your content is in a “div” tag and has a background of some type (otherwise images behind it become visible). Google has acquired social search service Aardvark, says a source that has been briefed on the deal, for around $50 million. We first reported on the discussions between the two companies in December. Those discussions have now turned into a signed deal, says our source, and will be announced today or tomorrow.

Aardvark, founded by ex-Googlers, has raised around $6 million in venture capital to date. The service lets users ask questions and get immediate responses from their friends and friends of friends.

Earlier this month the company published a research report that included some key stats about their business:

As of October 2009, Aardvark had 90,361 users, of whom 55.9% had created content (asked or answered a question). The site’s average query volume was 3,167.2 questions per day, with the median active user asking 3.1 questions per month. Interestingly, mobile users are more active than desktop users. The Aardvark team attributes this to users wanting quick, short answers on their phones without having to dig for anything. They also think people are more used to using more natural language patterns on their phones.
